Passion Week

DAY FOUR

Day 4 of Passion Week, Holy Wednesday, isn't given any attention in Scripture. Some believe Jesus and his disciples needed to rest. Others find it hard to believe they didn't do anything at all. Surely there was someone Jesus taught or helped? After all it was his last week of ministry. But all we have is silence. Silence isn't bad. Proverbs 17:28 even says that a fool who keeps silent is considered wise. Scripture has a lot to say about the value of silence, and being still. Since we don't have anything specifically to read for today concerning how Jesus spent this day, we're going to focus on some passages of Scripture that teach us about silence.
Choose one or more of passages below that focus on silence. Highlight verses that stand out to you. What do these verses teach us about God? What can you learn about people? What can you apply to your life based on what you read?
Ecclesiastes 5:1-2
Psalm 46:10
1 Kings 19:9-13
Matthew 11:25-30
Isaiah 53

Prayer focus

As we move into a time of prayer today, we can also remember the many times Jesus went off, by himself, to spend time in prayer and to rest. How can you follow His example today?
  • In your prayer time, pray about the things that stood out to you as you read through these verses.  What's God saying to you today?
  • Prayer is a great opportunity to share our heart with God. But it's also a perfect time to let God speak to us. Spend a few minutes in silence. Listen intently to God.
